Sanganer

Shri Digamber Jain Temple, Sanganer Location:
The town of Sanganer is located in Jaipur at a distance of 16 kms on the Tonk road. The town is entered through the ruins of two Triple Gateways also known as Tripolias.

Intro:
The place is very rich in ruined palaces and has many ethereal carved Jain temples. The ancient Shri Digamber Jain temple of Sanganer has fine carvings which are similar to the Dilwara temples of Mount Abu that. Built in old architectural style, the latest additions were made to the temple in the 10th century. The temple has high spires 'shikharas'. The inner sanctum is a stone shrine with three pinnacles housing the idol of Parshwanath with seven serpent hoods surrounded by carvings of religious symbols such as lotuses, creepers and elephants pouring water from pitchers held in their trunks. However, the presiding deity of the temple is Adinath.

Famous For:
Sanganer is an important centre for crafts industry. The crafts produced in Sanganer have earned a name all over India. Hand made papers and hand printed textiles from units of block and screen printers are the finest in the trade. The small floral prints once the legacy of royal court are very famous. The textile has earned a reputation even in foreign markets. Sanganer paper makers are the largest producers of hand-made paper in the world. Hand made paper bags, photo frames, diaries, paper boxes cards, albums, paper stationery are the key products of Sanganer paper industries. Some important players in the trade include A.L Paper House, Salim's Paper, Kagzi Handmade Paper Indsutries, Taj Paper Udyog.

The Bagru (Gujarat) and Sanganeri prints look identical and cannot be easily distinguished but if looked carefully the Sanganer prints are always on a white background, whereas the Bagru prints are essentially in red and black.

Best time to visit the place is between October and March when it is neither too hot nor cold.
