Shopping in Jaipur is in itself an art. The city of Jaipur has
abundant markets most of which sell excellent pieces of arts and
crafts. The arts and crafts of Jaipur city are really beautiful and
are famous for their delicate traditional touches. Precious stones
rule in the city side. A large number of shops sell various precious
and semi precious stones. These stones sometimes travel beyond the
national frontiers. Jewellery, gems, semi precious stones, Kundan
and Minakri work are chief articles which are very characteristic of
the city.
Major jewellery stores are located in the Jauhari Bazaar. The
actual workshops where enamel and gold work related items are
produced are located at Jadiyon-ka-Rasta, Gopalji-ka-Rasta,
Haldiyon-ka-Rasta and nearby areas.
Likewise the workshops of tie-dye and block printing textiles are
located at Sanganer and their chief stores are in Jahauri Bazaar and
Badi Chaupar. The tie-dye and block printing are best buys for
women.
For home decoration the place provides some good carpet and woollen
works. The emporia and shops which sell these articles are located
in the MI Road region.
Shops that sell antiques are prominent in the Hawa Mahal region.
Rajasthali emporium in M.I. Road is the chief provider of blue
potteries, carpets, brass ware and other items of handicrafts.
The traditional leather ware is available at Tripolia Bazar. It is
the best place to buy the famous Chappals and Jutis of Jaipur. And
to compliment the shops at Nehru Bazar and Bapu Bazar also provide
textiles, shoes which are made of camel skin and local perfumes.
