BM Birla's Science and Technology Centre is a constituent unit of
Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR) that owes its
existence to the dreams and aspirations of renowned industrialist
and visionary Mr. B.M Birla. Located in the heart of Jaipur, the
planetarium is a sprawling 9.8 acre complex that houses a science
museum, a library, a computer science, an information processing and
dissemination cell, as many as eight research divisions, a
processing planetarium and an auditorium. the auditorium with a
seating capacity of 1350 people, is one of the most modern
planetarium in India. The museum is closed on the last Wednesday of
every month.
The 12m-diameter dome can accurately simulate over 7500 stars of
the celestial globe. A 480-watt quadraphonic system with a 48 band
equalizer, 4 track recording and channel mixing facilities are
available, which adds to its advantage in preparing in house
programmes.
BM Birla's Science and Technology Centre endorse a star ball
projector and has as many as 12 special effect and 48 other slide
projectors. A new addition is the planetarium exhibition gallery,
developed outside the sky theater with working models related to
space and astronomy.
