Located 20 Km. from Jaipur, just beyond Sisodia Rani-ka Bagh, on
Agra Road, Galta is an enticing spot for a day's outing.
Situated amidst the low hills, Galta form an ancient pilgrimage
center of India. Galta endorses many temples, pavilions and holy
kunds along lush landscape and make it a an pleasant tourist spot.
These springs are believed to have curative powers. The small temple
of the sun god built by Diwan Kriparam on the top of the highest
peak is visible from all parts of the city.
Attraction of Galta
To the east of Jaipur, the Galta Temple is 2.5 kms climb from
Surajpol.The exotic Sun temple of Galta is located on the top of the
hill, overlooking the Galta valley . To the east of the temple is a
water tank which is fed by pernnial spring of pure-water falling
from a Gaumukh or an outlet structure like the mouth of a cow. On
the way to Galta, by the Ghat ki Guni, there is a range of hills
which is crowned with the fort of Amagarh.
When you enter in the complex, you will see two temples, one is at
the left side and another is on the right side. The temple
reverberates with the heavy noise of drums and bells. Behind a
fence, there are three holy tanks - known as 'kunds', located on top
of each other.
Besides these pools, you will see a staircase leading to the upper
pool. In ancient times, separate pools were used by, men and women
to swim, but with the passage of time, the same pool is used by both
men and women. The first pool was only for men, the second only for
women and the third one for the holy monkeys. The temple is
dedicated the God of Apes, Shri Hanuman.
