The city of Jaipur is a wonderful experience in itself. The
city is provided with many exotic places which for sure leaves an
impression on mind. The Pink City with its rich resources are prime
tourist attractions. There are many other picnic spots that
supplement the package and Karauli is one such place.
One has to cover a distance of about 180 kms to reach Karauli. It
is located in the southwest of Jaipur. The place was founded in the
year 1348 and consequently a fort was established in the region
which used to be the residence for the royal family untill the
year1950. The place is an abode for beautiful Krishna Temples. The
fort is un-inhabited and provides happy grounds for monkeys and
geese only. The geese were believed to be used as a warning system
against intruders in the older times.
The holy place of Karauli was originally known as Kalyanpuri after
the local diety Kalyanji. Karauli was a city in itself and built
with beautiful red sand stone. The rulers of Karauli are believed to
be descendents of Lord Krishna and the place is famous for Kaila
Devi Temple. Karauli is a famous pilgrimage place and thousands of
pilgrims come here to pay the homage.
The place is provided with Bhawar Vilas Palace, a grand mansion
owned by the descendents of the royal family. The palace which
serves as a hotel provides best accomodation facilities and
services.
The place is well connected with the road services from central
Jaipur. Buses and taxis regularly offer services to Karauli.
