Van Vihar Wildlife Sanctuary comprises of Van Vihar and
Ramsagar wildlife reserves in the state of Rajasthan. The reserves
were recognised and declared as wildlife reserves by the Govt. of
Rajasthan in the year 1955. Van Vihar reserve and Ramsagar reserve
together cover an area of about 59 kms.Van Vihar is located in a
small disrtrict Dholpur in the Rajasthan on Vindhyan plateu . The
place is inhabited by many species of animals and is a favorite
tourist place for adventure lovers.

The sanctuary is spread over an area of 59 kms which includes the
Van Vihar reserve and the Ramsagar reserve. Van Vihar covers an area
of about 18 kms and the rest of kms forms the Rasagar reserve.
Famous For: The sanctuary is famous for various species of
wild animals like Chital, Sambhar, Nilgai (Blue Bull), leopards, and
many other aquatic animals.
Location:
Van Vihar is located in the state of Rajasthan. The sanctuary is
about 18kms away from Dholpur district. Dholpur is about 113 kms
from Bharatpur Rajasthan.The sanctuary is spread over Vindhyan
Plateu.
Flora and Fauna:
Flora:
The Van Vihar reserve, as it is spread over plateu has many Dhok
and Khair trees covering the park floor. The Ramsagar region
encompasses the lake and that region is not very rich in
plantations.
Fauna:
The Van Vihar region is inhibited by species like Sambhar, Chital,
Blue Bull, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Hyena and Leopard. Ramsagar Lake
is populated with fresh water crocodiles and a variety of fishes and
snakes. White-Breasted Water Hen, Moorhen, Jacanas, Stilt, River
Tern, Ringed Plover, Sand Piper and Herons (grey, and purple) are
also quite common here. Many migratory birds are also found in the
sanctuary.
Best Time To Visit :
The best time to visit the park is during the months of October to
February.
Accessibility:
The sanctuary is situated in the district of Dholpur. Buses and
taxis from Dholpur lead to the sanctuary. Dholpur in turn is
connected to the rest of the Rajasthan state and the country.
