Jaipur city besides local attractions has a number of getaways
in the nearby region. Virat Nagar is one such place and is famous
for the museum located in the region. The museum contains the rich
history of the place. Situated at about 40 kms from the Pink City
the place used to be the capital of the legendary Matsayadesh.
Frequent references of Matsayadesh have been made in the Indian
epic- the Mahabharat. The place has been referred in the epic period
and included the area around the district of Jaipur, Alwar and
Bharatpur. Virat Nagar constituted the capital of the entire region
of Matsayadesh. The museum at Virat Nagar is a small one but
possesses rich collections. The exhibition includes excavated
material like potteries, pikkins old coins, seals, metallic pieces,
weapons and statues.
Road services connect Virat Nagar with Jaipur city. Due to its
close proximity the place offers a nice picnic spot.
Virat Nagar museum is accessible throughout the week except Fridays
when it is closed. The museum remains open from 10 am to 4.30 pm.
