Govind Devji Temple
Situated
in the midst of the sprawling Jai Niwas Garden and to the north of
Chandra Mahal, is the spire less temple of Lord Krishna. The image
of the patron deity Govind Devji, originally installed in a temple
of Vrinddavan, Uttarpradesh and then it was reinstalled here by
Sawai Jai Singh II in 1590, as the tutelary deity.
Thousands of devotees visit the temple everyday and the crowd runs
to Lakhs on any Festive Days. A large number of people of Vaishnava
discipline from Bengal, Bihar, Manipur & Assam come here and
pray to God for their homage & take a dive into this Celestial
Stream of Boons & Blessings.
The legend of Lord Govind Devji was also known as "Bajrakrit"
communicating thereby that it was developed by Bajranabh - The Great
Grand Son of Lord Shri Krishna. He asked his Grand Mother as to how
Lord Shri Krishna looked like. Then he made an image of Lord Shri
Krishna as per the definition given by her. She said that not at all
but the Feet of that image looked like those of Lord Shri Krishna.
After this, he made another image, yet she said that the Chest
looked like the same. Thereafter, he made the third image and
looking at the same she felt Blush and Nodded that yes that was what
Lord Shri Krishna looked like. The first one was known with the name
Lord "Madan Mohanji". The second one got recognition as
Lord "Gopi Nathji ". And then third one, the divine
majestic holy image is LORD "GOVIND DEVJI".
The idol of the presiding deity is taken out seven times everyday
for 'Aarties' and 'Bhogs' is mostly offered in the silver wares,
containing mostly of sweets. Radha Krishna's idols are dressed in
different styles and every time for the 'Aarti ' procession where a
lot of followers or 'Bhakt' gather around the courtyard for the
Darshan of Govind Devji Temple. At present, the most important and
popular temple of Govind Devji, attracts many devotees from all over
the country.
